A bundle can combine learning access and exam attempts without making every included credential a sensible next step. As of October 2026, Hack The Box has changed Academy pricing and OffSec publishes packages with different access periods. Read the inclusions and the learning sequence before comparing a headline package price with several separate exam purchases.
HTB's October change alters the current comparison
Hack The Box's pricing announcement lists Silver Annual at $550 a year under its new rates, with Tier 0 through Tier II access and two vouchers: CJCA plus one specialist certification. Its earlier listed price was $490. Use the current subscription terms and check how the change applies to an existing account.
The voucher combination matters. It does not establish that a learner can select any two advanced exams or that the subscription supplies unlimited attempts. Match the included specialist option and required learning to the credential you intend to pursue.
We would first choose the intended path and estimate the study capacity available during access. A second voucher can be useful without becoming an obligation to take another exam immediately. Avoid assigning a value based on an assessment you would not otherwise want to attempt.
OffSec separates access duration and attempts
OffSec's pricing page lists Learn One with a year of access to a selected course and associated labs plus two exam attempts. Its Course + Cert Bundle has a shorter access period and one attempt. Read the actual order for the intended course and account type before applying those descriptions.
These options serve different study plans. A learner who needs more time for lab practice may value access differently from someone already prepared for a bounded attempt. Compare the access and attempt conditions together, rather than dividing the price by the number of exams and ignoring the learning period.
Keep the renewal or cancellation terms in the purchase record where a subscription applies. A one-time bundle and an annual subscription can create different future obligations. Ask the provider about an uncertain term before assuming unused access or attempts roll forward.
A later exam benefit is a different arrangement
AWS's certified-holder benefits include a fifty-percent exam discount voucher. That is a benefit attached to an earned certification, rather than proof that buying an earlier exam prepays every later exam. The AWS certification agreement makes that benefit personal and non-transferable.
Do not combine that benefit with hypothetical future promotions to manufacture a guaranteed package price. Record the confirmed benefit separately from the cost of the original assessment. If the next credential is not relevant to your role, a discount does not make it necessary.
For a training budget, keep assessment, lab access, instruction and recurring maintenance as separate items. This makes it easier to compare packages with different structures. An included exam does not imply that an experience requirement or later renewal payment has disappeared.
Buy the plan you can complete
We would write a short sequence before purchasing: which work to learn first, which assessment fits that learning and what happens if preparation takes longer than expected. Check the actual deadlines and support options for that scenario.
Compare the package with the smallest purchase that would meet the current goal. Extra content can be valuable, but it should have a purpose and time allocated to use it. This month's decision should turn on the relevant learning, usable access and confirmed attempts, with current issuer terms attached to the comparison rather than an old bundle article's assumptions.
